Getting more out of Maria
Give her a whole trip, not one flight at a time
She can track several legs as one budget and alert on the running total, instead of leaving you to add up three separate alerts yourself. She keeps the legs in order with a sensible gap between them.
“Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, then Lima, then Cancún, end of March, under £300 for the lot.”
Up to four trips and twenty routes at once.
Tell her if your dates can move
A window beats a date. She checks the days around it and tells you when a cheaper one costs you something — a 06:20 landing, a longer layover, an extra stop. She’ll also weigh a return against two one-ways, which is often where the money actually is.
“First two weeks of April, and I can shift a day either side.”
Say whether you’re checking a bag
A fare that looks £40 cheaper often isn’t, once a hold bag goes on. Tell her and she compares like for like — it’s how she caught a 1-stop fare advertised as cheaper that actually cost more than the nonstop.
“One checked bag each.”
Give her a price you’d genuinely book at
She alerts on your number, not on her idea of cheap. A realistic figure gets you a useful message; a fantasy one gets you silence.
“Tell me if it goes under £600.”
Say how many of you are travelling
She prices for the whole party, not per person — so the number she quotes is the number you’d actually pay.
“Two adults.”
You don’t have to keep asking
She checks twice a day by herself, around 6am and 6pm UK, and she won’t
nag: no more than one alert per route per day unless it’s a new all-time
low. Asking her to check right now is capped at four a day, so save
those for when it matters. If it’s ever too much, send
/pause — she keeps watching, quietly.
